The House, Today

Here’s what the good side of the house looks like today. Lots of things are blooming. The gazanias are cranking up, and the cherry sage is ridiculous. I trimmed them a bit this morning.

I’m a little iffy about the wood box planter. I think it’s too high. I’m contemplating building another raised planter on the other side of the walkway, but from stone instead. Maybe only 18 inches high instead of two feet. If I like it, I’m thinking I might transplant the stuff growing in this one, and then replace it with stone next year.

Anyway, here’s a little victory in the raised bed: my red yucca is blooming. This is the first spring it’s been in the ground, so I wasn’t sure it would bloom this year, but there’s the first sign of the red flowers. I can’t wait to see the stalk grow out.

Also ready to bloom are the roses, which is not so great, since they’re still in their plastic wrappers, and not in the ground. I’m worried that I won’t get them in before they decide to give up and die, but I really can’t plant them until I do some major digging out.
