The Eggplant Cometh

After roughly 120 days of growing from seeds to enormous bushes, my eggplant jungle finally bestowed upon me today these three Black Beauties:

They are eggplant perfection. Avert your eyes. They’re also tomorrow night’s dinner.

I see one more eggplant amongst the four bushes, which are still producing a ridiculous number of flowers. I’ve tried tickling them, and even rubbed their yellow centers with my finger to get them to pollinate, but I’m not seeing any more little eggplant sprouts yet. Right now, I’m just watering regularly to get them through the heat wave, and hoping that when temperatures drop, they’ll start producing again.

I checked last year’s blog posts, and my Ichiban eggplants were still producing in October. I’m not sure how that relates to these, since they’re so much larger—but a girl can hope…
