This is one of the rosemary babies I planted before the first freeze last fall. Just one tiny twig with roots, all alone in a big empty space. While the babies were easy to root, I was dubious that they’d survive the winter, because they were just so small.
The same rosemary today. It’s round and happy. These are the babies of the two rosemary bushes I first planted in the front yard, which are huge already. Since I’ve killed at least half a dozen previous rosemary attempts, these are a real victory for me. Not only are the original plants thriving, but now their children are starting to populate the garden. I have another five babies that wintered in the house ready to plant.
I have officially achieved a rose in the front yard. This is one of the Knockout Roses I planted this spring. While everyone has these in red or pink, and they’re already in full bloom, this is the very first yellow one I’ve ever seen. There are several more buds ready to pop open, so it looks like this little plant is happy so far.
My lone gallardia made it through the winter, and is starting to blooom. I was hoping this plant would be bigger by now, and ready to divide into two plants, but no go. I’m planning to move it at some point, to fill in between the two large rosemary bushes in the front bed.
