Independence Day

Continuing my independence from inferior supermarket tomatoes, I planted the fall crop today. Three Romas, and two Husky Cherries. Both varieties have done well for me in the past. Getting plants, soaker hoses and cages in place was sort of a comedy act, but none of the neighbors were working in their yards today, because it’s ridiculously hot and steamy after a week of afternoon rains. It looks like there’s more rain in store this coming week, which will be great for the new plants.

I also put good dirt into the new cucumber bed, but didn’t buy any transplants today. I have a couple of lemon cucumber vines that went in late, and are hidden underneath the current wild crop, so I might pull those out and move them to see if they take off, and also put in a few plain old burpless cukes as well.
