Yesterday was the 15th of the month. Bloom Day. A day when garden bloggers around the world take photos of what’s blooming in their little patches of earth, and post them. Here’s this month’s post, where you’ll find links to dozens of blogs, showcasing an endless number of beautiful photos of blooming things.
*sigh*
Meanwhile, here in North Texas, the only thing that’s blooming in my garden is the weeds. There are TONS of them, so they’re quite spectacular. They are, however, weeds. My neighbors are not thrilled.
On the plus side, I managed to plant spring tomatoes yesterday, and am hoping to pop outside shortly to start on planting seeds: cukes, zuchs, yellow squash, acorn squash, eggplant, lettuce. If I can get my act together to build another small raised bed, I might do strawberries, too.
I’m starting to clear weeds and poke at the dirt in the front yard, too. I’m about a year behind where I wanted to be on this project. It’s a big dirt pit right now, but if I can just get a few nice days in a row, I think I can whip it into shape for planting. A lot of the stuff I planted previously died over the winter, courtesy of our ridiculous amount of snow.
I’ve also come to realize that although what I’ve planted in the front yard looks pretty great in the spring, summer and fall, it looks rather bleak in the winter. I’m thinking of moving some things around, and adding a few more evergreen shrubs as backgrounds for all the blooming things.
So. Here we go. The clock is ticking, and the race to beat the summer heat begins…
