These are gazanias, also known as African Daisies. I planted six last spring, not sure if they’d live or die in the Texas heat. Well duh—they’re from Africa. They loved the Texas heat. The less water I gave them, the more they bloomed.
At the end of the summer, when I snapped this pic, my six tiny little plants had turned into three large clumps, two small clumps, and one dead plant. I wondered if they’d make it through the winter freeze, since they’re sold here as annuals, and briefly contemplated moving them inside during the cold months. Nah.
Two weeks ago, I poked my head outside, and saw that yes, the gazanias had sort of survived the winter, but were looking kinda crowded and choked. I dug up four of the clumps, and divided them into 24 new plants, which are now scattered all over the bed shown in the photo. They’re looking a little sad and wilty right now, but that’s sort of how they looked when I planted them last year.
We’ll see what happens…
