Garden Bloggers Bloom Day

Here’s what’s blooming this morning…

Above, the zucchini started blooming yesterday. There are two good sized blossoms on each plant, and quite a few buds. The cukes are blooming, too, but their flowers are shy, and hidden behind a lot of greenery. Oh, and tomatoes. Lots of flowers on the tomatoes.

At left, the lantana is blooming like crazy. I’d just about given up on this plant, but I cut it back hard, tossed some of the seed pots in the ground around it, and then it rained a lot. Now, it looks beautiful.

Next to the lantana is this red yucca. The flowers are hard to photograph, but they’re quite spectacular, waving in the wind.

At left, the new gaura, also hard to catch in a photo. These flowers flutter in the breeze like butterflies.

Above, butterfly iris in the shade bed. This has been blooming steadily since I planted it. It was very potbound when I bought it, so I divided it on the way into the ground. I think it’s relieved to have some wiggle room.

At left, gallardia. This has been blooming in spurts. Right now, it’s more seed globes than flowers, but there are lots of buds waiting to open. I think it will burst out again once the ground dries up. This is one of those plants that hates being watered, so all the rain we’ve had has made it a little cranky.

Gazanias are also blooming in many colors, but since it’s overcast this morning, they’re closed up tight. If the sun comes out, maybe I can get a few pics later in the day.
